Six New Exhibitions Open a Spectacular Fall Season at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery / Six nouvelles expositions pour un automne en beauté à la Galerie d’art Beaverbrook

September 26, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Six New Exhibitions Open a Spectacular Fall Season at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery

Fredericton, NB, September 26, 2011 – The Beaverbrook Art Gallery opens a spectacular fall season on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at 5 pm with an inspired lineup of six brand new exhibitions guaranteed to engage the mind and ignite the imagination.

Marie-Hélène Allain: The Numinosity of Stone is a major retrospective exhibition that traces the evolution of the distinctive, life-affirming sculptural practice of one of New Brunswick’s leading artists. Covering a period of four decades, it focuses on the use and meaning of stone in the art of Acadian artist Marie-Hélène Allain as a barometer of spiritual growth grounded in the elemental processes of nature.

River Cantatas presents new work by Vancouver-based artists Lance Belanger and Kitty Mykka. As part of the Gallery’s major 2010 project Wolastoq (Beautiful River), Belanger and Mykka participated as artists-in-residence and traced the St. John River to its source in the woods of Maine. This fall they have returned to Fredericton to create a richly layered installation that synthesizes the conceptual ideas that arose from their experience.
