Shannon Webb-Campbell
For the Telegraph-Journal

Acclaimed Acadian nun/artist Marie Hélène Allain’s fusion of sculpture and spirituality has earned her the honour of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s 2011 Gala celebration.

The announcement was made Thursday at the Moncton Museum.

“In a way it’s not an award, it’s a tribute,” Beaverbrook curator and deputy director Terry Graff says. “Over the last number of years there has been so many outstanding and extraordinary artists in New Brunswick. Allain is in good company – previous recipients include: Tom Forrestall, Bruno Bobak, Roméo Savoie, Fred Ross and Molly Lamb Bobak. While the gala and exhibition isn’t until the fall, celebration of Allain’s work is ubiquitous in New Brunswick.
